About Me

I took this selfie on a sneaky abandoned road I found while looking for new routes to UNBC during the closure of University Way. Behind me is the motorcycle I’ve had since I was 16.

Hi, I’m Kino. I’m from the unceded territories of the Lheidli T’enneh. Prince George born and raised I’ve been a snowboard instructor here since 2015. I’m working towards becoming the third generation of educator in my family. When people ask how I made it through my first teaching contract I tell them, “I made friends and I called my mom”. I love snowboarding and I love sharing it with others. I also love mountain biking, motorcycles, board games, painting mini-figures and finding new outlets for creating. My notebooks have doodles and poetry in the margins. I spend much of my time exploring the nature and space surrounding me and I’m always searching for new ways to connect to this place, and the new places I’m lucky enough to visit. I’ve learned to love every season living here. This is important because they’re likely to arrive regardless of my feelings.

I like finding new and challenging things. The chance to be a beginner used to be something I found embarrassing. However, more and more, I’m learning to love the feeling that comes from taking on a difficult new skill, and learning the cultures and community surrounding it. This can be anything from learning to paint my nails, to sim racing, to riding new trails on my bike. I do a lot of things because I like to be a lot of things. A close friend likes to use the word multifaceted. I’m non-binary and I’ve been blown away by the support, love and acceptance I’ve found, and been lucky enough to share with others. I’ve taught snowboarding, radio production, music appreciation, and the plethora of subjects I get to engage with well teaching on call. What I love about teaching is what I love about everything I do; It’s fun to get better and I’m so excited to share and connect with people.
